You could also introduce shock to the person who is having hiccups or ask the person to hold his or her breath and count from 1 to 20. Holding your breath changes the balance of carbon dioxide and oxygen in your body, which result to breaking the diaphragm spasm. Inducing sneezing or taking charcoal tablet and flush it in with a glass of water could be effective to your body.
According to medical practitioners, hiccups are caused by irritation of the diaphragm. But some people observed that hiccups occur after drinking too much alcohol or if you have a full stomach.
